There are only three steps that stand between you and your newly created website. These are:
Step 1 - You need a Domain Name - A domain name provides your website with an identity. It is what your users will type into their browser to get to your website. A lot of people I talk to just want a website to share photos and personal opinions. They are not interested in providing a web presence beyond their family, friends and colleagues. You can choose a domain name that is aligned to the type of information you want to share, for example your family name as a domain name would be a good site to have to keep your family and friends up to date with your family activities.
Step 2 - You need to host your website - Once you have selected a domain name for your website, you will need somewhere to host your website. This should be with a reputable hosting service that will provide you access to your website files, as well as enabling access to your website to the World Wide Web. There are many around, such as HostGator.
Step 3 - Create your website - Once you have selected a Domain Name and have somewhere to Host your Website, you are ready to build your website. Software like WordPress is excellent for beginners as you can literally be up and running within 10 minutes. WordPress can also be installed on Hosting providers like HostGator making it a fantastic choice for new website owners.
